All student fees are due before May 15th, especially for Seniors.  No student fees are to be carried forward to the next school year.  Forms were mailed in January for fees up through 1st semester.  Check with your teachers for any 2nd semester fees you may owe, the library for any fines and the cafeteria for over charges.

Principal's Welcomeb
March 2012

My, how times flies at a high school!  It is difficult to believe that mid-semester report cards are out already!  I hope this report card brings good news to you and your child.  If your child is struggling, please make an appointment to speak with the teachers.  We are here to challenge, yet support your child.  Teachers recently met with parents to review Personalized Education Plans (PEPs) that outline strategies to assist identified students.

The deadline for students to submit course registration forms for next fall just passed.  Your child should have met with his/her counselor to discuss course selection.  Students will receive course verification forms by the end of March.  If you have questions or concerns regarding the registration process, please contact guidance counselors.

I am afraid that spring fever is taking hold at Hickory High.  Please help us keep students’ minds on school work as the days grow longer and the weeks grow shorter.  You can help by monitoring your child’s absences and tardies. More important than the disciplinary consequences when your child is late to class or absent are the missed opportunities for learning.  Don’t forget that school policies on attendance make-up and tardies are outlined in the student handbook.  You can also help by encouraging your child to eat lunch in the cafeteria or bring lunch with them.  For their safety, students are not allowed off campus during the school day.  We are happy to check students out for legitimate appointments and family emergencies.  However, checking students out for a quick trip to purchase take-out lunch interrupts focus on academics and causes tardies.

Finally, please consider supporting our campaign to improve the HHS library collection. Our library is in serious need of new books, especially in the areas of science and technology.  Outdated books hinder your child’s work on research projects and independent reading assignments.  Check out the HHS website for links to support the TitleWish project
